The Freedom of Autonomy with the Strength of Numbers
Philadelphia Metro Area
The Philadelphia metropolitan area exemplifies the success of community practices and the significant healthcare shifts driven by The Network’s growth strategy. Before 2018, the region had a high concentration of costly academic medical centers, leading to fragmented and expensive oncology care. This changed when The Network began its strategic growth plan, consolidating independent oncology practices into a larger group while maintaining their autonomy.
Key milestones achieved by early 2022 include:
- Increasing medical oncology physicians from 9 to 56 across 19 sites
- Adding two radiation facilities
- Advancing sub-specialty integration with multiple organizations
- Collaborating with primary care
- Enhancing payer relationships, becoming preferred providers, and negotiating revenue-optimizing contracts
These efforts have resulted in continued growth and improvements in oncology care, benefiting practices, patients, and payers. Practices now leverage The Network’s expertise and resources without losing autonomy, patients receive personalized, advanced care at lower costs locally, and payers gain a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to expensive academic centers.
